Author Interviews: Sam Campbell and Ben Dixon with Red Dust (Zombies Western)

The Fall (Scaled)

In your own words, describe Red Dust….

Red Dust: The Fall is the story of the wild west plagued by the Undead. Each story in the book can be read in some ways, separate to the others but they all exist in the same world and slowly begin to link and build an alternate America. Stories of horror, revenge and duty are built into the larger narrative of a nation under attack from the Rising Plague.

What is the genre?

Horror-Western-Zombie (It’s somewhat of a hybrid genre haha)

What inspired you to write this book?

Myself and Ben have always played around with story ideas. We once came up with a comic book series about an insect, not a super insect but just the regular bug kind. But since finishing University we dabbled with this idea we came up with a while back and being inspired by other writers we thought we would give it a go.

Will this book be a standalone or part of the series?
This book is part of the Red Dust series.

What message would you like to convey with Red Dust?

If we had to have a message I guess it would be that people are complex and their motives in life are never straight cut.
Either that or always shoot zombies in the head. The genre keeps telling people yet every story you read some guy always shoots the zombie mail man in the gut.

What books are similar to this one?

In the genre I wouldn’t be able to say, I’ve only read two zombie novels and both were modern day stories. We were influenced by Andrzej Sapkowski who is a fantastic short story writer and World builder. The Last Wish is a fantastic example of how a group of small stories can build a greater picture.

Where can readers find your book?

It is available on Amazon, Smashwords and other major ebook distributors.

Can you tell us some about the writers behind the book?
Myself and Ben are History graduates and complete nerds. Huge fans of various TV series – Breaking Bad and Hannibal being a couple of our recent favourites. We work every day jobs, I work in a shop and Ben works in a Office. We took up being Indie Authors earlier this year and are really happy with how readers have responded to our books.

Tell us one thing about you we wouldn’t know?

For Game of Thrones fans- I grew up and live in the area Sean Bean (Lord Stark) is from (He still pops in our local pubs for a drink). It may not be Winterfell but it is the North in my mind.
Fantastic Indie Authors: Totally awesome!

How can readers connect with you?
Twitter @Thelostparty
And they can message us on Goodreads

What are you working on now?
Red Dust part 4 – It doesn’t have a title yet but we have the story ready in our minds and we are starting to write next week.

Do you have any other books released? What is your next release?

The Lost Party
The Last Rider

These three stories are in Red Dust: The Fall but we offer them separately if readers only wish to read one of them.
